About the course
This course develops your ability to coordinate tourism and hospitality services around guest needs, reliable operations and local destinations. Learning combines technical study with practical tasks relevant to Southern African organisations and communities.
What you'll learn

Requirements
- Prepare to follow practical instructions, use basic measurements and keep a simple record of your work. The facilitator will introduce the tools and safe working procedures used in each activity. Check the provider's published admission requirements before enrolment.

Stage 1: Foundation knowledge and safe practice
- Tourism and Visitor Needs. Build foundation skills in tourism and visitor needs. Guided examples introduce tourism activities and visitor segments, followed by practice with travel motives and local attractions. You will complete a supervised task, explain your choices and use service needs and responsible conduct to review the result.
- Hospitality Communication and Customer Care. Build foundation skills in hospitality communication and customer care. Guided examples introduce welcoming visitors and listening, followed by practice with giving information and handling requests. You will complete a supervised task, explain your choices and use complaints and inclusive service to review the result.
Stage 2: Technical subjects and guided application
- Reservations and Front-Office Records. Build foundation skills in reservations and front-office records. Guided examples introduce bookings and availability, followed by practice with guest records and check-in. You will complete a supervised task, explain your choices and use payments documentation and check-out to review the result.
- Housekeeping and Accommodation Basics. Build foundation skills in housekeeping and accommodation basics. Guided examples introduce room preparation and cleaning sequence, followed by practice with linen and amenities. You will complete a supervised task, explain your choices and use hygiene and inspection records to review the result.
- Food and Beverage Service Basics. Build foundation skills in food and beverage service basics. Guided examples introduce service equipment and table setup, followed by practice with order taking and serving sequence. You will complete a supervised task, explain your choices and use hygiene and clearing to review the result.
- Local Tours, Itineraries and Responsible Practice. Build foundation skills in local tours, itineraries and responsible practice. Guided examples introduce attraction research and routes, followed by practice with timing and visitor information. You will complete a supervised task, explain your choices and use community respect and environmental care to review the result.
Stage 3: Enterprise and integrated proficiency
- Small Enterprise Records and Customer Communication. Study the development of a viable small enterprise from a defined customer need. Guided practice centres on a small-enterprise plan and test record, drawing on customer problems and enterprise opportunities and products, services and value propositions. You will record findings, justify decisions and check whether the financial assumptions and customer evidence support the proposal.
- Tourism and Hospitality Skills Proficiency. Demonstrate the practical skills developed across the programme. Tasks integrate tourism and visitor needs, hospitality communication and customer care within an agreed work brief. You will prepare resources, carry out the authorised task and check the result. Your evidence should show consistent performance, accurate records and an explanation of decisions within your learner role.
Assessment and practical learning
- Suggested learning checks: explain a procedure, complete a short task and respond to practical questions.
- Suggested practical assessment: demonstrate the skill under supervision and keep a record of completed work.
- Use assessor feedback to correct errors and repeat a task until the agreed quality criteria are met.
Practical application
