About the course
Develop introductory visual communication and digital marketing skills for small organisations and community projects. The proposed foundation outline connects a clear audience brief with readable design and simple campaign planning. Southern African examples should use appropriate languages, respectful imagery and realistic budgets, with permission for all assets and personal information.

Requirements
- Recommended preparation is functional literacy, numeracy and readiness for supervised practical work. BMIT must confirm the authorised foundation-certificate entry route, any bridging support and recognition of prior learning. No comparator duration, credits, qualification-framework level or examination entitlement is assigned to this proposed outline.

Subjects in this programme
The subjects are grouped by learning stage, from foundations to specialist study and supervised application. Complete earlier foundations before the related advanced work. Clinical, laboratory, field and workplace subjects use approved facilities and supervision appropriate to the programme.

Stage 1: Foundations
- Digital Information Skills. Examine file organisation, word processing and their relationship within digital information skills. The subject develops spreadsheets and online information, then examines account security and data integrity. Organise files and analyse a small dataset using common digital tools.
- Visual Design Principles. Develop your understanding of visual design principles through layout and typography. The subject develops colour and hierarchy, then examines accessibility and audience. Produce alternative designs for a simple local communication brief.
Stage 2: Technical and applied subjects
- Digital Design Tools. Study vector graphics and raster graphics as foundations for digital design tools. The subject develops file formats and image preparation, then examines export and file management. Create editable visual assets using authorised software and images.
- Digital Content and Marketing. Examine audience needs, messages and their relationship within digital content and marketing. The subject develops channels and content planning, then examines brand consistency and ethical promotion. Plan a small campaign using fictional or approved organisational information.
- Digital Marketing Measurement. Develop your understanding of digital marketing measurement through objectives and indicators. The subject develops reach and response, then examines data quality and improvement. Review a synthetic campaign dataset and identify sensible revisions.
- Copyright, Privacy and Digital Ethics. Study asset permissions and attribution as foundations for copyright, privacy and digital ethics. The subject develops personal information and consent, then examines misleading content and responsible publication. Audit the rights and permissions for a teaching design or data project.
Stage 3: Supervised practice and integration
- Entrepreneurship and Small Enterprise. Examine customer needs, value proposition and their relationship within entrepreneurship and small enterprise. The subject develops business models and costs, then examines operations and enterprise risk. Develop a small-enterprise proposal grounded in a defined local need.
- Foundation Practical Project. Develop your understanding of foundation practical project through brief interpretation and preparation. The subject develops supervised execution and quality checking, then examines corrections and reflection. Complete an approved foundation task within the programme practical scope.
Assessment and practical learning
- Proposed assessment: knowledge checks, practical exercises and annotated examples explaining design or technical choices.
- An individual portfolio containing working files, test or review evidence and a clear account of revisions.
- A focused applied project and presentation. BMIT and the awarding body must approve weighting, examination requirements and final award rules.
Practical application
Use suitable design software and learner-owned, licensed or otherwise authorised assets. Learners should retain editable files and explain their design choices. Publishing to real accounts or spending advertising funds requires explicit project authorisation. A simulated campaign provides an appropriate alternative where permissions or budgets are unavailable.
